Rains disrupts traffic on Yamnotri Highway

The swampy conditions due to the seeping of water triggered by heavy rains has led to swampy conditions on Yamnotri Highway between Sayana Chatti and Rana Chatti in 50-metre-long area near Ojri. Dabarkot resulting in disrupting the vehicular movement at Yamnotri shrine area, on Saturday.

Two JCB one Pokland and 1 Bull dozer machines were deployed to clear the swampy condition on the road and the team from SDRF, Police, revenue along with sub inspectors, search and rescue team were deployed at the spot.

The 30 to 40 m part of the wall caved due to gushing flow of Yamuna river near Jungle Chatti on July 28th near Jungle Chatti resulting in disrupting the traffic. 1 JCB machine and 70-80 labourer’s have been deployed to restore the wall.

The pilgrims heading to Yamnotri are being diverted to alternate bridle path from Trikhla-Kupda by the district administration. 11 rural road in the district is shut for traffic and the work is one to open it. The Rishikesh-Gangotri road is only opened for small vehicles and the heavy vehicles are not being permitted to ply due to the precarious condition of the roads.
