Normal life disrupted due to landslides in and around Mussoorie

MUSSOORIE, July 11

 

Heavy rains lashing the hill town of Mussoorie from past two days put the normal life out of gear on Wednesday.

The overnight Landslide near Kandi Khal on Mussoorie- Kempty Nainbagh road due to heavy rains resulted in blocking the traffic for more than 10 hours putting the yatra plans of   the pilgrims on their way to Yamnotri Shrine out of gear. The local villagers were the biggest losers as they were caught in the jam with their stock of vegetables and Milk which could not reach the markets of Mussoorie and Dehradun. The JCB operator deployed by NH department also faced the problem due to continuous falling of the boulders form the top near the landslide zone. The road was opened for traffic after struggle of 10 hours. At Mussoorie-Dehradun road more than dozen slum dwellings at Nepali Basti were partially damaged due to the Landslide affecting 18 families.

SDM Mussoorie Meenakshi Patwal and EO Municipal council ML Sha reached the site and shifted the affected families to safe area as precautionary measure. SDM Mussoorie said that the debris was collected on Mussoorie Dehradun road and Mussoorie Tehri road which was cleared by PWD department. She directed the EO Municipal council to identify the people living in illegal dwellings and initiate concrete action before any untoward incident takes place.
