MUSSOORIE, July 10
The first silk and mixed silk clothes selling centre was opened under the aegis of Uttarakhand Cooperative Silk Federation at Gahrwal terrace premises in Musoorie on Tuesday.
Dhan Singh Rawat Minister of State (Independent Charge): Co-operatives, Higher Education, Dairy Development and Protocol inaugurated the centre along with Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi jointly at around noon. The president of the Silk Federation Ghanshyam Sharma and Vice-President Abdul Razzak presented a flower bouquet and shawl made of silk to the Minister. Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that the state government was committed to promote silk industry and was making an effort to provide a market through such centres to the silk products. He said that such centres were also being opened in other districts and the selling centre at Mussoorie was first in the series. He said that tourists will be able to purchase authentic goods made of silk from the centre at nominal prices.
The minister said that the government has succeeded with the support of Uttarakhand Cooperative Silk Federation to market the silk products and bring them to the common people. He said that earlier no one knew that the silk federation existed in the state but the tide has turned now. He said that the silk products were being manufactured locally and around 3000 women are linked with this industry. The government has made a goal to link 10,000 women with the industry in near future. He said that the state was reeling with the problem of migration and the government was trying to mitigate the problem using the available resources. The Mussoorie BJP president Mohan Petwal, Dharampal Panwar and others were present on the occasion.
