UTTARKASHI, June 26
The erstwhile sleepy town of Uttarkashi is ready for facelift courtesy as the Riverfront park was inaugurated at Gyansu by MLA Gangotri Gopal Rawat and DM Uttarkashi Dr Ashish Chauhan with an objective to promote tourism and link the local youth with self-employment in Uttarkashi district on Tuesday.
Dr Chauhan is being commended for converting the Joshiyara lake into a tourism hub and a place for people to relax and enjoy the beauty for the religious town on the Banks of River Bhagirathi.
The Master design of the Lake campus was also displayed on the occasion. A cultural song items were also presented by K.C. Kudyal Music group and Vinod Rana the folk artists that enliven the evening. The river front has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 16 lakhs which included Rs 10 lakh contribution by Municipal council Uttarkashi. MLA Gangotri Gopal Rawat said that the efforts will be made to develop the areas to promote tourism in the district and link the locals with self-employment. He said that he was working on developing these areas form past one year. He said that the activities namely boating, paragliding, entertainment etc are being planned at the park site and a master plan will be designed to make Uttarkashi a beautiful town. DM Dr. Chauhan said that Joshiyara Lake will developed similar on lines of Nainital and master plan is being worked for that. He said that the riverfront park has been constructed using funds worth Rs 16 lakhs from ONGC and Rs 10 lakhs from Municipal council Uttarkashi. He said that the maintenance of the park will be done by police department. The Joshiyara lake and river front park are the projects initiated by DM Uttarkashi Dr Chauhan who started these projects to provide employment and link people with tourism. Chairman Dairy development board Surendra Nautiyal, Dist. Gen Secretary BJP Vijay Santri, Trader association president Subash Badoni, Administrator Municipal council Anurag Arya and others were present on the occasion.
