Notices served to joints selling stale food in Tehri

MUSSOORIE, April 20

SDM Tehri Chatar Singh Chauhan along with food safety and police officials acting on the directions given by DM Tehri Sonika to ensure cleanliness in the hotels and business units etc on the National Highway and tourist spots in the district conducting inspection of hotels, restaurants and tent camps  between Chamba and Kanatal on Friday to ensure cleanliness and hygienic practices were being followed or not.

 DM Tehri had directed the officials to conduct inspection of these units on regular basis so that tourists get clean facilities and hygienic food.  On finding stale food being served against the guidelines the food items were destroyed at the spot and served notices to 10 people for selling sub-standard food items and warned them not to indulge in such negligence in future. She directed all the business units to paste the rate lists on Hotels and food stalls and if any such anomaly is found during the surprise inspection in future, action will be initiated under various sections of the act. The inspection team also found that the boards display food security, no smoking zone were missing from various hotels etc.

SDM served notices to managers of 10 such units under the food security and safety act 2006 and said that sterner action will be taken if there is no improvement in their services. He said that pilgrims for Char Dham Yatra come in large numbers and to ensure that there is no fraud against such pilgrims the management of various hotels and restaurants have been directed to sell the food items according to laid down standards. The team also collected samples of 12 food items being sold on Mussoorie-Chamba Road and send them for further tests to the lab at Rudrapur. The stale food items found at Kanatal were also destroyed and Rs 1000 Challan  was also levied on the perpetrator under cigarette and other tobacco products (COTPA) act. Sub-inspector LIU Vinod Joshi, police inspector Chamba Devendra Singh, food security officer M.M. Joshi and Sharda Sharma were present on the occasion.
