There is no sign of two children who were washed away in the Bhagirathi river near Tiloth Power House at Uttarkashi on Thursday evening despite the search operation carried out by Teams from SDRF, ITBP and police that went on till late evening on Friday.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when some children were playing cricket in the ground near Tiloth Power House and their ball fell in the Bagirathi River. Shibu aged nine and son of Pyar Singh Baungadi resident of Mustik saud in an attempt to recover the ball. On seeing him fall in the river Lucky another boy aged 11 Years old s/o Dhanpal Singh rushed to save him from drowning but was washed away in the river too.

The locals on seeing the two children being swept away in the flow of the river summoned the Police who reached the site with the team from SDRF and began the rescue operation immediately. The search team after a search operation conducted for several hours could not find any trace of the missing boys on Thursday. The search operations were resumed early morning on Friday where a team of diver’s from Rishikesh searched for the missing boys from Tiloth power house to Joshiyada, under Jhoola Bridge and Joshiyada but were not able to find the two boys. The police station Incharge Mahadev Uniyal said that there was no sign of the two boys and the search for the kids was still on.

DM Uttarkashi Dr Ashish Chauhan on reaching the Johshyada Barrage, took stock of the search and rescue work being carried out to find the two missing boys washed away in the Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi. He instructed the Police station incharge to speed up the search and rescue drive and also take help of the employees form Nehru institute of Mountaineering to find the missing boys.  He said that a dummy should be dropped at the site in the river from where two boys had been washed away to gauze the flow and estimate to where they might have been stuck.  He also directed the officials to use drone cameras to search the missing boys.

Meanwhile, a body of 35-year-old women was found in the lake in Uttarkashi by the team conducting search operation. The body is said to be a day old and report of her missing was filed in police station on Friday. DM directed the officials to begin the identification process and send the body of post-mortem. He assured the people that the search operation will continue, and they will succeed in finding the missing. Block Pramukh Chandan Singh Panwar, hotel Association resident Shailendra Matuda, SO police station Uttarkashi Mahadev Uniyal and others were present on the occasion.
