Congress state president Pritam Singh who was on his way to attend a party function at Nainbagh on stopping briefly at Mussoorie directed the Congress workers to gear up for local bodies elections. The party workers welcomed the state president by garlanding him at Gandhi Chowk and held a meeting to discuss the poll prospects in forthcoming Municipal elections of Mussoorie. Pritam Singh said that the party workers should unite to register victory in the polls. Speaking to media persons he lambasted the BJP government in centre and state for failing on every front. He said that the one-year tenure of the BJP government is nothing but a failure. The state government was more interested in delivering liquor in every village and that can be gauzed by the amendments made in the excise policy of the government which was indicative of the fact that the government was working under the pressure of Liquor mafia. He said that the anti-people policy being purported by BJP government have made people lead a life under misery. He said that the Trivendra Rawat is unable to take decisions in interest of the people. He said that the Congress was ready for the local bodies election, but the BJP government was not yet ready for it fearing loss in local body elections. He said that Congress has appointed election observers in the state and after complete assessment the party will contest in the local bodies election with full might.
He informed that the Congress will be organising one day Fast at district headquarters as mark of protest against those people who are bent upon destroying the social fabric of the country. He appealed to the people to make the program a success as per the directions of the Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Meanwhile during the meeting, the party workers aired their concerns to the state president. The workers said that most of the party workers were in favouring of fielding new candidates especially at the post of Municipal Board president. He added Mussoorie to strengthen the party so that they can show a united face during the local Bodies election. All workers pledged to work for party unitedly. Mahla Congress president Jasbir Kaur, Congress town president Satish Dhaundiyal, Megh Singh Kandari, Traders Association president Rajat Agarwal, senior congress leader Sandeep Sahni, Jaipal Rana,Amit Gupta Ritesh Rawat, Anuj Gupta, Gaurav Gupta and others were present on the occasion.
Later state congress president reached Nainbagh in district Garhwal where he was welcomed by the newly appointed Nainbagh Congress unit president Pradeep Kavi amid the beating of traditional drums. Here attending the meeting of workers at a school hall he urged the party workers to unite so that the BJP can be defeated in local bodies elections. He also heard the grievances and suggestions of the workers where the party workers alleged that they were being neglecting in the party to which the state president aired his unhappiness and asked the leaders to take the workers into confidence.
Earlier, he paid floral tribute at the statue of the congress leader late Sardar Singh Rawat.
