Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj declares Jakhol village, a tourism village

Mussoorie/Uttarkashi, March 18

Tourism, irrigation and cultural minister Satpal Maharaj distributed around blankets, food items and clothes to the members of 46 families whose houses were gutted in fire in month of February at Savani Village, in Mori bock of Uttarkashi, on Sunday.

Over 40 houses were gutted in a major fire that broke in Sawani village rendering the affected families there homeless and charring large number of cattle to death mid-February this year.

Satpal Maharaj expressed his grief at the loss and said that he has come here to help them at this sad and tragic moment and prayed from god to provide strength to the affected villagers to reinstate themselves in the village and move forward in their lives. He assured that all possible help would be provided to the affected villagers.

He also declared Jakhol village as tourism village on the occasion. He also announced of including Dev Kyara Bugyal in tourism map. He announced beautification of Jakhol Sarutal lake. He urged the villagers to preserve their traditions and culture and said that the Tribal Tourism should be developed here.  He said that Jakhol would qualify for first prize in the tribal tourism competition.

Speaking on the occasion he said that a religious circuit is being developed to promote tourism. Goddess temple would be linked to short tourism circuits in Kumaon and Garhwal region.

A Vaishnava Circuit linking Shiva temples is also being planned. T Shani Dev Temple, Brihaspati and Katarmal Temple in Almora would be linked with Navgraha circuit. The minister said that a Char Dham Pedestrian circuit will be developed on similar lines as Annapoorna Circuit in Nepal. With the introduction of circuits, the tourism would be more lively, meaningful and help in generating employment and curbing migration. For developing adventure tourism Their lake is being developed. He also talked about promoting local delicacies such as Barn millet Chappatis, nettle vegetable, Askey etc. He talked of providing training to the youth in the field of tourism through camps at Guthu near Ghansali. SDM Pooran Singh Rana, CO JL Kohli, several Kshetra Panchayat members and villagers were present in large numbers.
