Bus falls into gorge, thirteen killed

DEHRADUN, March 13

In an unfortunate incident, thirteen persons were killed and twelve others injured when a bus on way to Ramnagar from Deoghat fell into a gorge near Totaam in Almora district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

The incident happened at around 8.30 am. The bus had left Deoghat around 5 in the morning and was on way to Almora, when near Totaam, it fell into a deep gorge. Twelve passengers died at the very spot while another succumbed to injuries later taking causality figure to thirteen. State disaster force teams along with district and police administration pulled out the dead bodies and the injured from the gorge. The injured were rushed to Ramnagar civil hospital.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat who immediate enquired about the incident ordered for relief and rescue operations on a war footing. He ordered for immediate medical assistance to the injured. He has also directed for prompt distribution of financial assistance to the affected.

Most of the deceased and injured belong to Almora district and were on their routine travel. the bus belonged to Kumaon Motors Owners Union Limited, one of key public transport agency of Kumaon division of the state.
