MUSSOORIE, March 8
A clear division on party lines was witnessed as women wings of both Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Congress celebrated International Women’s Day separately at Mussoorie, on Thursday.
At the function organised by Bhartiya Mahila Morcha near Picture Palace, the women wing of BJP four women from different walks of life were felicitated for their contribution by the Chief Guest Neha Joshi, the national joint media Incharge of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on the occasion.
She extended greetings to all the BJP women wing workers and said that they should pledge on International Women’s Day to start honouring women and girls at their homes and spread then everywhere. She said that for her it was indeed a moment of joy that she got the opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day with the women folk of Mussoorie for the first time. She thanked the women of Mussoorie for supporting her father Ganesh Joshi MLA Mussoorie. Neha Joshi remembering the days when his father was wrongfully detained in the Shaktiman Horse case, thanked the womenfolk from Mussoorie for coming out on streets in his support. She appealed to them to pledge for bringing improvement in the society that honour women right from their own homes. She appealed to women to participate in every realm of work without any hesitation.
Social Activist Kavita Shukla was felicitated for providing education to girl children from poor strata and promoting the local Garhwali cuisine in Mussoorie. Dr. Rashim Kulshresta the principal Mussoorie girls Inter college in the field of education, Smriti Hari for working towards eradicating social evil from the society and Shripati Bhandari for marrying of his daughter in law following his son’s death four years ago.
In another program organised by Mahila Congress at Shagun Wedding point, the chief guest on the occasion, the state Congress President Preetam Singh extending greetings to all women said today the women are proving their mettle in every field. He said women of the state have played an important role during the separate statehood movement of Uttarakhand.
He said that the steps should be taken to empower the women further. Prachi Raturi a journalist, Radio Jockey Nupur Karnwal Kaintura, social activist Kavita Shukla and coordinator of Buransh society Kamla Carol were felicitated by the chief guest on the occasion. Jasvir Kaur the president of Mussoorie Mahila Congress thanked the guest for gracing the occasion.
