An awareness camp was organised by Mahila Congress members at Mussoorie to create awareness among adolescent girls and women towards the importance of menstrual hygiene, on Tuesday.

The Mussoorie Mahila Congress president Jasvir Kaur along with social worker Rubina Anjum distributed several disposable sanitary pads to the women and the adolescent girls on the occasion. Highlighting the importance of using sanitary pads regularly. Jasvir Kaur said that menstrual hygiene was very important for the adolescent girls and women for leading a productive life and that too with dignity. She stressed that women should avoid using the cloth during menstrual cycle as it was seen that cloth used for menstrual hygiene was susceptible to infection.

She lamented the decision of Modi government of levying 12% GST on Sanitary Napkin and said that on one hand the government was talking of Beti Bachao Beti Padao through its flagship program but on the other it was charging 12% from the same lot for sanitary napkins making it expensive for the poor section of the society. She demanded removal of GST from Sanitary Napkins immediately. She said that sanitary protection was every women’s health right and hence government should waive the additional tax without any delay. Reena, Nisha, Vaishaili, Shabina, Shobha, Seema, Manju and others were present on the occasion.
