DEHRADUN, Feb 18
In a major initiative, Uttarakhand government is trying for a tie up with civil aviation authorities for prompt identification of forest fire affected areas during the forest fire season.
The proposal has been sent to Director General of Civil Aviation for the final stamp of approval. Large number of airplanes fly from Jolly Grant airport while almost half a dozen aviation companies fly helicopters at various place in Uttarakhand. As per the proposal, the pilots flying these airplanes and helicopter will also keep an eye down on forests and will inform the authorities on catching any glimpse of forest fire. It is easy for the pilots to notice the billowing smoke high above from sky.
It has been generally seen detection of forest fire at right time is a big challenge and often forest fires rise to alarming level when it comes to the knowledge of forest authorities. Forest fires are a big challenge in Uttarakhand which is forest abundant state. Every year the state has put into its large resource to counter forest fire challenges.
