Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG) will be felicitating its former Director Dr V. C. Thakur, who has been recently awarded with the coveted Padma Shri.
A geologist of repute, Dr V.C. Thakur is in Mumbai these days and will return to his Dehradun residence in February. An elated WIHG, scientists are looking forward to accord a grand welcome at Dr Thakur.
A quite popular figure with both scientists and other employees at WIHG, Dr Thakur is the second geologist to be awarded with Padma Shri. The first being geologist K.S. Valdiya, who was awarded with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in 2007 and 2015 respectively.
Dr Thakur has done his MSc from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and a Ph.D. from London University. He is also a member of National Academy of Sciences, Uttarakhand chapter.
