Ecologists from Uttarakhand led by Raksha Sutra Andolan activist Suresh Bhai has submitted a report to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari apprising him about the ill effects of rampant felling of roads in Uttarakhand hills for Prime Minister’s Char Dham All Weather Road project.

Handing over the report document prepared by the environmentalists, Suresh Bhai urged the minister for keeping fragile Himalayan region’s environment concerns in mind. He apprised the minister that the document was a thorough study done by them to understand the adverse effect that the rampant felling of trees in Uttarakhand hills was causing to the region and also the possible environment threats.

“Starting from April up till December last year, our team went from village to village to assess the outcome of felling of trees and blasting taking place for road widening”, Suresh Bhai told the minister.

Suresh Bhai is credited with starting Raksha Sutra Andolan in Garhwal hills, where people tie holy threads around trees pledging to protect the trees.
