In order to reduce pollution levels and save the expenditures on fuel, Uttarakhand government plans to introduce electric buses in the state in near future.
Uttarakhand Transport Minister Yashpal Arya has said that his ministry was contemplating introducing electric buses in the state. He asserted that this would be a cheap mode of transport and would also be less pollution taking into account fragile environment of the state.
Further, Arya held that a curb on registration of old vehicles is also under consideration. He said vehicles that are fifteen years old could be debarred for re-registration. He said awareness in the society towards efforts to check rising pollution was very necessary and asserted that the state government will shortly start a campaign in this regard.
Arya asserted that it was collectively responsibility of one and all to work for minimizing pollution.
