DEHRADUN, Nov 11
Kedarnath Shrine will have a air ambulance service from the next yatra season. The air ambulance service holds much importance for pilgrims as a large number of them die every yatra season due to sudden health emergencies like cardiac arrests.
Taking into account figures, a little less than three hundred pilgrims have died due to cardiac arrest at Kedarnath during past six years. In most of these cases, timely medical assistance could have saved lives of many but it was not so taking into account absence of any such facility at Kedarnath.
District Magistrate Rudraprayag Mangesh Ghildhiyal disclosed that air ambulance service was certainly very important for Kedarnath. He said tough terrain and weather conditions at times results in medical emergencies and in such air ambulance can be life savers.
According to medical experts, decreasing oxygen and extreme cold conditions, which prevail at Kedarnath makes one vulnerable to cardiac arrest. Significantly, the administration is also contemplating making ECG compulsory for pilgrims above sixty years of age.
