The work of erection of poles and laying of overhead wi-fi cables on the Mall road by the Information Technology (IT) department has been stopped and the poles that had been erected have also been removed from the Mall road. The IT department would now lay underground wires so that the aesthetics of Mall road is not adversely affected.
This move has come after eNewsDesk had highlighted this issue on October 13 in an article titled, “Overhead cables despoiling the beauty of Mall road again.”
eNewsDesk had informed senior officials of IT department that the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is already spending Rs. 4.74 crores on a project to remove all overhead cables from the Mall road and therefore only underground cables must be laid on the Mall road.
eNewsDesk had also apprised the Vice Chairman of MDDA, Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram who had also promised to ensure that overhead cables must not be laid.
After this story was carried the officials took swift action and immediately the overhead cables and the poles were removed from the Mall road.
Meanwhile, local residents have congratulated eNewsDesk for taking this initiative and have expressed hope that this portal would continue to address civic issues in the future as well.
It must be mentioned that the wi-fi cables are being laid under the directions of CM Harish Rawat who had promised free internet on the Mall roads in Mussoorie and Nainital.
